Chef’s Secrets That Will Help You Organize Your Kitchen Space

Making great meals for you and your family can be a chore or a blessing.  And what we’ve learnt in our years spent in the kitchen is that fantastic food takes talent, time, and… the perfectly organized kitchen! Today we will share with you our tips on how to create a kitchen space worth a Michelin-level chef in your lovely apartment. Let’s get organized!

It’s all about the right system.

Organizing your storage and fridge space may seem not such a big change in your kitchen. Yes, it is very convenient, but how is it better than organized chaos most of us have? The thing is, when you get your special food storage system, it helps you keep on track with everything you have and follow the crucial F.I.F.O Rule: first in, first out.

Our two main principles in storage organizing are quite simple: standardized containers and labels. Once you got something, it is better and more convenient to put it into a standard container, put the sticker with all the needed information, and move it into the storage. Now you will keep on track with everything you have, how long it is here and where it will expire. You will never again face the situation where one apple gets lost in the fridge and wasted because of it. Also, you will never get a bug in your cereal or mould in flour. Now you save your money and have fresh, delicious food.

Little helpers.

It can be shocking how little things like spatulas, squeeze bottles, small knives, etc., can help you with everyday cooking chores. Depending on your tastes and food routine, you can figure out what little things fit your particular cooking style. We definitely recommend you not to create clutter with an abundance of spoons and forms you never use in your kitchen, but if you make something regularly, those little things can make your life a lot easier.

Find a place for everything.

Every little thing in your kitchen needs to have its own ”bedroom”: a special place where it belongs. When you start organizing your kitchen, this rule will help you find and donate all the extras, never used and often forgotten. We mean that waffle iron you never use or pizza stone that’s still in its original package.

When you determine a place for every fork and pan, you will see that cleaning becomes so much easier, and you can keep your counters tidy and free of clutter.

Plan ahead and make it big with essentials.

Shopping for food is an enjoyable activity on its own, and one of the first things any professional cook will recommend you during this fun time: make a meal plan. If you know the exact things you need to buy, keeping your storage good and organized and not creating a mess becomes so much easier. You will not get in trouble because you don’t know where to put those chocolate bars you’ve bought. You’ve bought them because you planned it, and made a place for them.

And as for essentials, we advise you to go big with them. Buy extra-large packages of rice, flour, oatmeal, etc., if you use them on a daily basis. It is not only smart from a financial standpoint, but it saves a lot of time for you.
