How to Set Up Your Home Space And Stay Productive

Your home is your fortress. And in times of pandemics, it is also your workspace, your entertainment area, your gym, and every other thing imaginable. Jokes aside, many of us now face the situation where we need to establish a working place at home that will motivate us and put us in a working mood. But how can we achieve that?

Look around and learn what you need

Let’s start with the basics. Do you have a chair? Good! Do you have a desk? Even better! But now, you need to step aside and determine what else you need to complete your working space and make it an all-work-no-fuzz kind of a place. Maybe you need a stapler, calculator, block of paper, storage space, etc.?

Once you’ll have gathered all the stuff you need, take something sweet and nice that is usually on your desk at work and put it on your “new desk”: a plant, family picture, small toy. There’s no need to make your working space very harsh: you are at home, you can be you.

Try to distance yourself

We practice distancing everywhere these days, right? So, to make it easier for you to work at home and don’t get distracted,  we advise you to separate yourself from the rest of your house. For example:

  1. A mighty nature. Place your desk in front of the window. That way, your eyes will not see the rest of the room while you’re working. Maybe you’ll even forget that you are at home 😏
  2. Room Dividers. Put your desk in the corner, place a room divider, and BOOM you’re not at home anymore !
  3. Earbuds. You don’t need a physical separation from the world: once you have music in your ears, it is no longer your home: you’re in a different place!

Keep up with the routine

I bet you had some kind of routine when you worked in the office! Maybe you put some makeup on or made lunch in the morning? If you find it hard to work from home, try to act like you are not.

Do every single step that you used to do before you switched for your “home office”, but in the end, sit at your home desk. Believe us, it can give you the motivation you so desperately need. Thanks to your routine, once you finish it, you are in the mood for work.

We also want to mention lunchtime and working hours: set up alarms and do all of those things as if you’ve never left the office. It will keep you in shape and will help you separate your personal and work life, even if they currently co-exist in one room.

Have fun!

It is such a weird time to live! However, we all have a perfect opportunity to learn excellent work ethics: when no one looks after you, you need to be your own boss at home. But that does not mean that you can’t have fun!

You could go to work in sweatpants or put a fun picture on the wall. Bring your pets in your office and play with them during breaks. Enjoy this time at home and do your work with pleasure!
